How to make an OMR sheet and check it with your phone

By Learning Media Publication · Updated 5 November 2026

OMR sheets let students practise the exact format of competitive exams like NEET, JEE, SSC and state exams, and they make checking a 100-question test much faster. You don't need an OMR scanner to use them: you can print sheets on ordinary paper and check them with a phone.

Part 1: Create the OMR sheet

  1. Open the OMR Sheet Generator.
  2. Choose the number of questions (10 to 200) and options per question (usually A to D).
  3. Add your institute's name, the test name and fields such as student name, roll number and date.
  4. Download the PDF and print it on plain A4 paper. Print at 100% ("actual size"), not "fit to page", so the circles stay where the checker expects them.

Part 2: Instructions for students

  • Fill circles completely and darkly with a black or blue ball pen.
  • Don't tick, cross or half-fill circles, and don't make stray marks near them.
  • Write the roll number in the boxes and fill the matching circles, if your sheet has them.
  • Don't fold the sheet.

Explaining these rules before the first test saves many "my answer was right but marked wrong" complaints.

Part 3: Check sheets with your phone

  1. Open the OMR Checker and enter the answer key once.
  2. Set the marking scheme, for example +4 for correct and −1 for wrong.
  3. Place a sheet on a flat, well-lit surface and photograph it straight from above, with all four corners visible.
  4. The score appears in seconds. Move to the next sheet.
  5. Export the results as a spreadsheet for your records or to share with parents.

Tips for accurate checking

  • Use even light without the phone's shadow over the sheet.
  • Spot-check a few sheets by hand at first, and any sheet with an unusual score.
  • Keep the original sheets until results are final, in case a student asks for re-checking.

The free plan checks a limited number of sheets per session; Premium removes the limit and lets you add your logo to the sheets.
