Questions
Which format do Indian universities use?
Most follow a common pattern: A4 paper, Times New Roman 12 pt, 1.5 line spacing, a 1.5 inch left margin for binding, roman page numbers for the front pages and normal numbers from Chapter 1. That is the "Indian university" style here. Always check your university's own PhD ordinance and change any setting that differs.
How do I update the table of contents?
Word fills it in when you open the file (click Yes if it asks to update fields). After writing, right-click the contents and choose Update Field → Update entire table.
Can I paste text I have already written?
Yes. Paste with "Keep Text Only" (Ctrl+Shift+V) so the thesis font and spacing are applied, then mark headings with the Heading 1, 2 and 3 styles.
Can I write my thesis in Hindi?
Yes. Choose Hindi: headings such as अध्याय, प्रमाण पत्र and घोषणा are used and the font is set to Mangal (Unicode), which universities and Shodhganga accept.
