Your references

References you add appear here. They're saved in this browser, so they'll still be here when you come back.

Your reference list is saved in this browser only. Lookups send just the DOI, ISBN or title to public academic databases.

How to use the MLA citation generator

    1. Paste a DOI, ISBN or the title of the source and select Find.
    2. For a website or anything not found, choose Enter manually. Today's date is filled in as the access date.

    About this tool

MLA style is common in English, literature, languages and the humanities. Entries list the author's full name, the title in quotation marks or italics, and the container that holds the work, such as a journal or website, followed by its details.

Websites include the date you accessed them, and each entry shows its in-text citation, such as (Sharma).

    Questions

What is the Works Cited page?

It's MLA's name for the reference list at the end of your paper. Entries are listed alphabetically by the author's surname.

How are three or more authors written?

Only the first author is named, followed by et al., for example: Sharma, Rahul, et al.

Do I need page numbers in the in-text citation?

Yes, when you quote or refer to a specific passage. Add the page after the name, for example (Sharma 45).
