Your files

The PDF tools on this site run entirely in your web browser. When you choose a file, it is read and processed on your own device. Your files are not uploaded to our servers, and we can't see, store or share them.

What our server receives

Like any website, our hosting provider records basic technical information when pages load, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested. This is used to keep the site running and secure.

Research tools

Tools that search for papers, journals or references (the citation generator, paper finder and journal finder) send only what you type in the search box, such as a title, DOI or ISBN, to public academic databases: Crossref, OpenAlex, OpenLibrary and Google Books. Their own privacy policies apply to those searches.

The OCR PDF tool and the Notes maker read scanned pages and photos with the free Tesseract OCR engine. The engine and its language files are downloaded from jsDelivr, a public library server, the first time you use OCR. Your pages are read on your own device and are never sent anywhere.

Your saved reference list and flashcard decks are stored in your browser's local storage on your device. They are not sent to us, and you can remove them by clearing your browser data.

Fonts

Pages load fonts from Google Fonts, which means your browser contacts Google's servers. Google's own privacy policy applies to that request. Your documents are never part of it.

Cookies

This site doesn't set cookies for tracking or advertising.
