About this tool

Copying from a PDF usually breaks every line at the edge of the page, splits words with hyphens and adds stray spaces. This tool rejoins lines into proper paragraphs, keeps bulleted and numbered lists intact, and mends words split across lines.

Extra options straighten curly quotes, remove reference numbers like [12] when quoting a passage, and change text to sentence case, lowercase, uppercase or title case.

Questions

Will it join my paragraphs together?

No. Blank lines between paragraphs are kept, and only the breaks inside each paragraph are removed.

What happens to bulleted lists?

Lines that start with a bullet, a number or a letter, such as 1. or a), stay on their own line.

Why are some hyphens kept?

A hyphen at the end of a line is removed only when the next line starts with a lowercase letter, so terms like Covid-19 stay intact.
