How to sign a PDF without printing it

By Learning Media Publication · Updated 22 October 2026

Printing a document just to sign it and scan it back wastes time and paper, and the scan usually looks worse than the original. You can put your signature directly on a PDF in a couple of minutes.

Three ways to add your signature

  • Draw it with your finger on a phone, or with a mouse or stylus on a computer.
  • Type it and pick a handwriting-style font. Good for informal documents.
  • Upload a photo of your signature on white paper. This looks the most natural and is best for formal documents.

Step by step

  1. Open Sign PDF and select the document.
  2. Create your signature by drawing, typing or uploading a photo.
  3. Go to the page that needs signing and place the signature on the line. Drag the corner to resize it so it looks like a real pen signature, not a stamp.
  4. Add the date or your name as text if the form asks for it.
  5. Download the signed PDF and check it.

Tips for a clean signature image

  • Sign on plain white paper with a dark pen, then photograph it in daylight without shadows.
  • Crop close to the signature. A big white box around it can cover printed text on the form.
  • Keep the image file safe. Anyone who has it could paste your signature onto other documents.

Is an image signature legally valid?

A signature image on a PDF is accepted for many everyday purposes: offer letters, internal approvals, rent agreements between private parties, forms for schools and coaching institutes, and so on. It is not the same as a digital signature certificate (DSC) or Aadhaar eSign, which are required for things like filing on government portals or certain legal documents. If you are unsure, ask the office receiving the document what they accept.

LMPure signs the file inside your browser, so the document and your signature are never uploaded.
